The Reverend Timothy Weisman
Pastor in New York, New York
The Reverend Timothy Weisman is a husband, musician, and Lutheran pastor with a passion for building community at the intersection of faith, justice, and the arts. He serves as pastor of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, a congregation at the forefront of music, liturgy, and service on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Since arriving on March 10, 2020, just days before the pandemic shut down the city, Tim has guided Holy Trinity through a remarkable season of resilience, renewal, and growth. Under his leadership, Holy Trinity has launched new ministries, welcomed dozens of new members, and funded once-in-a-generation projects, including commissioning a landmark Central German-influenced pipe organ by Paul Fritts & Co., the first of its kind in New York.
Tim has also championed Holy Trinity’s service ministries, including a year-round expansion of H.U.G., a weekly meal for the underserved, and the launch of Community Living Room, which provides a hot meal, a shower, laundry, and computer access to our neighbors in need. He has nurtured the church’s celebrated Bach Vespers series, the first in the hemisphere to blend the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach and the historic Lutheran liturgy.
Before coming to New York, Tim served as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, Mass., where he led Jazz Vespers, blending centuries-old evening prayer with jazz, blues, and gospel; and Laundry Love, helping neighbors wash and dry their laundry for free at a local laundromat. After years of planning, fundraising, and courage, the congregation founded Common Room, which welcomes thousands of artists, musicians, farmers, and neighbors each year into its sacred space. (Just ask Tim about the time he played with Yo-Yo Ma.)
Originally from Indiana, Tim completed the Bachelor of Music (organ) at the University of Evansville and earned both the Master of Music (organ) and Master of Divinity degrees at Yale University. He has been published in Sundays and Seasons, the official liturgical planning publication of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; the American Organist magazine; and his leadership in Massachusetts was profiled in a feature article in The Lutheran magazine. Tim has also appeared on several national broadcasts of the CBS Evening News.
Tim lives in Manhattan with his husband Jeremy, an RN Care Manager at Alliance Homecare, their fiendishly adorable rescue puppy named Hops, and loving memories of their boxer mix named Barley.
